Newcastle’s only Gay, Lesbian & Trans Film Festival is back for its 2nd year to help raise awareness for the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia (IDAHO). After the festival’s successful maiden year in 2012, Tower Cinemas Newcastle will once again hose the shOUT Film Festival this year which boasts 3 days of cinema from around the world from Friday 17 May.

GENoz has discovered that the City of Newcastle sponsored a LiveSites initiative in Summer 2013 (earlier this year) which encouraged residents to create art including using spray chalk on pavements.

The city of Newcastle woke this morning to page 9 of the Newcastle Herald reporting that anti-rainbow crusader, Newcastle Lord Mayor Jeff McCloy, has stated that Gay and Lesbian equality supporters can ‘‘get naked and walk backward up Hunter Street if they want to’’.

A psychiatrist who says they can cure gayness and a politician who believes marriage is now “meaningless” are causing outrage in their home country of New Zealand and all around the world, with both of them soon arriving in Australia.

After the controversial removal of rainbow chalk artwork by Newcastle City Council at the direction of Lord Mayor Jeff McCloy, local community members are looking to the City’s neighbour, the City of Lake Macquarie, to express their creativity and show their support for marriage equality.
