Newcastle Marches Toward Marriage Equality

Nothing could stop supporters of marriage equality on Saturday 11 August not even the wind cutting directly off the ocean, the rain or the near arctic temperatures.

Newcastle came out with chants ablaze as a group of nearly 300 marched from Newcastle City Hall, along the foreshore and over to customs house. Several speeches were given from political party members including Nuatali Nelmes (ALP Mayoral Candidate) - Newcastle City Council, Michael Osborne (Greens) - Newcastle City Council, John Sutton (Greens Mayoral Candidate), Jason Hinton (Independant Ward 1 Candidate) Michelle Lancy from PFLAG & Cate Faerhmann (Greens) NSW Upper House.

Newcastle joined 7 other capital cities around Australia that all marched in unison on Saturday 11 August @ 1pm. Newcastle was the only regional city to be included in the nationwide rally organisation.
