So, if you haven't heard about the new all-inclusive venue in Newcastle you must be living under a rock. Yes, it's true! The Sydney Junction Hotel is shedding its mediocrity on Beaumont Street, Hamilton to reveal a fabulous new venue dedicated to serving patrons from the LGBTQI communities of Newcastle and surrounding regions. This is the first time in over 20 years that a venue has marked itself as specifically gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex friendly and the first time ever that a venue in Newcastle has gone after the big boys by promising to book a string of names worthy of an oxford street headerboard.

UNITY is the venue's flagship nightclub, which opens on Friday 8 June & the beginning of Queen's birthday long weekend - Happy Birthday Queens!. With a stellar lineup of talent in store including Zoe Badwi, headlining DJ Dan Murphy and a taste of some brand new drag production numbers, the talent will be backed up by superstar local DJ Shalyn Grey and hot newcomer Jimmy James. Club promoters will shortly announce their Saturday and Sunday lineup for the long weekend, which features more imported talent from the south, including a drag production by #thebrotherhood (ARQ and Shift Residents) and Sydney DJ's Tommy K & James Tobin.
Venue promotors have promised that UNITY will import the best DJ's and performers that Australia has to offer and has leaked a few performers that will be gracing the stage in June & July 2012 which include Elen Levon (Like A Girl In Love & Naughty), Sarah McLeod, Wil Sabin's EP tour and Kitty Glitter!
UNITY will also become host to a range of regular nights including Glenda's Glamour Trivia on a Tuesday & Sunday Sessions which will deliver DJ's in the nightclub's courtyard area to celebrate the last day of the weekend in a "Beresford Style" social setting. DETENTION, on a Wednesday night, will be offering dirt cheap drinks and barely clothed girls and boys for the "naughty" student in us all and CRUISE on the last sunday of each month - a Men's only club from 5pm-midnight promising to deliver hard and dirty house DJ's from the Sydney Underground with a pulse throbbing feel. More regular nights are also in the pipeline.
Friday (vicariously dubbed "Pink Friday") and Saturday nights hold a promising lineup of headlining DJ's, guest and inhouse production shows and the odd celebrity appearances here and there.
UNITY is also the new home to Newcastle's very own amateur drag competition WIG WARS, which still has 2 heats and a grand final to go, with a few very special guest judges, before announcing Newcastle's favorite drag talent.
Ontop of all of this Sydney Junction will be host to the yet to be named Wine & Cocktail bar which will be directed by a several of Newcastle and Sydney's best cocktail mixoligist's. The bar, which is entirely seperate from the main nightclub and restaurant will bring a cosy and intimate atmopshere to the Hudson Street side of the venue where patrons can try some of the best wines the hunter region has to offer or sip their way through several exclusive cocktails whilst listening to an array of live musicians and lounge DJ's. The bar has announced their shortlist of names (submitted by the public) to be publicly voted upon - the list featuring names like Fusion, Dusted, Spectrum, Freedom Bar and even Glenda's (in homage of local drag icon Glenda Jackson). You can vote on your favorite name by going to www.facebook.com/unitynightclub and the winner will receive their name on a plaque inside the new bar.
For those of you who were concerned about the change, only because of the possibility that the restaurant will be closed or changed - do not despair! The restaurant will still continue to operate with its value for money menu including $10-$15 meals for lunch and dinner.
Sydney Junction also offers a gaming area with outdoor gaming and a pool room with 2 tables.
Tickets to the UNITY opening (Friday 8) are on sale through GENoz.com.au by clicking the link below.
